Dreaming of the Dress...

My life is very different than what I imagined it would be at this point...I guess that I thought I would have been on a career track since I was 18 and be married with 3 kids and have picket fence by now...

but thank goodness for this crazy ride that my life has been, that I still have some of these things to look forward to...

I am so thankful that I took the path less traveled by and that I have been fiercely committed to it...it took three college degrees, endless years of soul-searching and experimenting (I certainly rode the process of elimination approach...), and 5 fabulous and tragically hard years in NYC to find my real self and nurture this creative being that I am...

And I am proud to admit that I reject societal expectation. When my mother makes the comment that she's old, I want to scream. Age is a mindset; not a number that should dictate what we can achieve. When people submit to accepting a hum-drum career and live for the weekend, I just can't identify with it. When they stay in relationships that are not completely fulfilling, simply because it's easier than being alone, I have to look the other way. When people talk about opportunities that have passed them by but remain actionless to attain their end, I want to shake them and scream "WAKE UP!"

But these are all choices that we make. You always have the choice to walk in the direction of your dreams. And stop paying attention to a ticking clock. Just because you are 25, 35, 45, 65, 85...whatever...it's never too late to effect your life and realize your dreams. I am proud to say that I am 33 and my dream is being realized everyday. And I will probably be 45 before I ever get married or have kids....not that these things aren't important to me...love is the fuel that keeps me pressing on...but I am not going to force a fit that just isn't right...so I strive on, making art and living my dream...and what's supposed to happen will happen, when it's supposed to happen...

In the meantime, I feel honored and privileged to capture the everyday and special landmark events in your lives. And I would be lying just a bit if I didn't tell you that I do think about what it would be like to married...and yes, I must admit... that I do dream about the dress...
